Dunkin’ Donuts are going green

July 1st 2015 – the day that the NYC ban on styrofoam took effect making it illegal to sell, distribute and use EPS (expanded polystyrene).

Obviously, this has impacted the food industry the most but Dunkin’ Donuts have embraced the change with open arms.

With over 500 stores in New York City, they have been using their new recycled cups for the last few weeks now and have even started trialling the cups in other states. They hope to roll the new recyclable plastic cups out in all stores in the near future but for now, they are continuing to evaluate all of their options looking at the best solutions based on cost, performance, commercial viability and environmental impact.

Who knows what cups Dunkin’ Donuts will be using in 2 to 5 years time but there is a good chance that it won’t be sytrofoam and for now, that makes me happy.
